Latest comings and goings...
Painting each week with a group of fine artists 'plein air' here on our central California coast of Cambria, I have the pleasure of continually meeting new and interesting skilled painters. This unique group has been meeting each week for 27 years and agree on the place which differs each time. After a three hour paint session, gentle and often quite humorous critiques are held as all munch lunch together. Since there are no dues and all is quite informal, individuals come and go at their discretion, hence their name "Wednesday Irregulars." Simply being together with this ongoing group of convivial artists, I find stimulating and challenging. If you have such an opportunity, take it!
Just came home from visiting our nations capitol and environs. A swift trip of ten days but well worth it. Even though I've been to Washington D.C. several times, this is my first Springtime visit. Regretfully, no time for painting, but lots of sketchs with all variations of green, green green! Those stately tall Elms and Maples in full leaf lining the Potomac River were a magnificent sight. I noted sailboats closeup and far, and harbors filled with all manner of boats, truly a grand view in every direction. Priority were family visits, then zipped over to see the new additions in the Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian. It is always exciting and as a former private pilot, anything air captivates me. Great forms and designs everywhere. I'd like several days just for that place alone.
My art pals had urged me to be sure to get to the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria., VA. What a fine treat it was too. Nearly 130 small galleries of every category of artwork, as well as artists at work there. Each artist was so amiable no matter how many questions I posed about their style and methods. When you are there, be sure to take a day or two for a Factory visit.
Now, to review my sketchbook and postcards for new ideas ..and get to painting, pronto!
